must-have / performance / delighter mapping
Model answer
Kano classifies features by user emotional response: Must-haves (absence disappoints), Performance (more is better), Delighters (unexpected joy), Indifferent, and Reverse. For a food-delivery app: on-time delivery is must-have, accurate ETA is performance, free dessert is a delighter.
What great candidates actually do
- Delighters become must-haves over time — plan for the treadmill.
- Kano is a survey-driven model; without user data, you're guessing.
- Pair Kano with RICE — Kano tells you WHAT category, RICE ranks within it.
Traps to avoid
- Naming the solution before the problem — always restate the goal in one sentence first.
- Answering without structure — pick a framework out loud, then execute it.
- Skipping the trade-off — every strong answer names what you would NOT do and why.
