What's the difference between a wireframe, a mockup, and a prototype?

Framework
structure → aesthetic → behaviour
Model answer
Wireframe = structure (boxes and labels, no colour). Mockup = look and feel (visual design, no interaction). Prototype = interactive flow (clickable, simulates the real experience). BAs mostly own wireframes; designers own mockups and prototypes.
What great candidates actually do
- Show low-fi wireframes early — hi-fi mockups anchor stakeholder feedback in colour.
- A prototype is worth 100 spec pages for anything with novel interactions.
- Tools: Balsamiq (lo-fi), Figma (all three), Whimsical (fast wireframes).
Traps to avoid
- Naming the solution before the problem — always restate the goal in one sentence first.
- Answering without structure — pick a framework out loud, then execute it.
- Skipping the trade-off — every strong answer names what you would NOT do and why.
