Business Analyst Requirements easy

What's the difference between a BRD, FRD and SRS — and when would you use each?

Asked at InfosysTCSAccentureWipro
Framework

why → what → how (traceability)

Model answer

BRD answers WHY (business need), FRD answers WHAT (features and flows), SRS answers HOW (system-level, testable specs). You write them in that order, and they nest — every FRD requirement traces back to a BRD objective.

What great candidates actually do

  • BRD is owned by the business sponsor; FRD by the BA; SRS by the BA + tech lead.
  • In agile shops, BRD becomes a product brief, FRD becomes epics, SRS becomes stories.
  • Traceability matrix links every SRS line to an FRD requirement to a BRD objective.
