The 6 rounds you will face

Most Indian product companies (Flipkart, Razorpay, PhonePe, CRED, Meesho, Zomato, Swiggy, Paytm) run a variant of this loop:

  1. Recruiter screen — 30 min, fit and expectations.
  2. Product sense — 45-60 min, "design/improve X" question.
  3. Estimation / case — 30-45 min, "how big is market/feature X".
  4. Analytical / metrics — 45-60 min, "metric dropped, why" or A/B test design.
  5. Behavioural — 45 min, past-experience STAR questions.
  6. Bar-raiser / cross-functional — engineering, design or leadership panel.

  9. Walk me through a metric you own and how you moved it.

How to practice these

Reading questions is not preparation. You need reps. Our recommended sequence:

  1. Pick 5 questions per category, write structured answers in a doc.
  2. Speak your answer aloud to yourself, timed at 5 min per question.
  3. Do peer mocks (find them in our community) with written feedback.
  4. Do 3-5 mentor-led mocks — the difference between "prepared" and "hired".

Frequently asked questions

How long is a product manager interview loop?
Most Indian product companies run 4-6 rounds over 2-4 weeks — a recruiter screen, a product sense round, a case/estimation round, a technical/analytical round, a behavioural round, and a hiring-manager or bar-raiser round.
What is the most important round?
Product sense. It is the round most candidates fail. It is the round most interviewers weight heaviest. Get very good at it.
Do I need to know SQL for a PM interview?
For most senior IC PM roles, yes — enough to read a query, spot a wrong join, and reason about a metric definition. You do not need to write complex queries live.
How do I practice PM interviews?
Do 8-12 mocks with peers and mentors before applying to your top companies. Every mock should end in a written scorecard. See our mock interview program.
